Higher Openshaw Community School and Manchester City Council are working together to make it easier for parents and carers to apply for school places.
Children are allocated a place at Higher Openshaw Community School in accordance with our Admission Policy which is set out by Manchester City Council. To Download a copy of the admission policy click on the link below.
If you would like to register your child for a place in our school from Reception to Year 6 you will need to contact Manchester City Council’s Admissions Department on 0161 245 7166. Please click on the link below for Manchester City Council’s admissions policy. The councils admission team operate an application process where your child will be allocated a place at the nearest available school. They keep a waiting list of places if our school happens to be full in the year group that you require. All school appeals must be made via Manchester City Council.

To register your child for a Nursery place please download a registration form and return it to the school or attend the main office. Children start our Nursery in the September after turn 3 years old.
We are committed to offering full time places of 30 hours per week including lunch provision for all children. However this is subject to government funding. We ask that all parents register with www.childcarechoices.gov.uk as a condition of accepting the Nursery place. Eligible families will receive vouchers which must be used in the school nursery setting.
Please note – A PLACE IN OUR NURSERY IS NO GUARANTEE OF A PLACE IN OUR SCHOOL.
The school is only responsible for the admission of pupils to its Foundation 1 (Nursery) class.
Our Foundation 1 class (Nursery) has 30 full-time places. You can register your child anytime from birth. We accept children from 3 ½ years old, however we stipulate that they must be toilet trained.
There is no charge for attending our Nursery as the school falls inside an area of high deprivation as indicated by Manchester City Council. All places are full time and a fairness policy operates that prioritises children by looked after status, SEND, age (i.e. their date of birth) and distance to school.
Our Nursery admissions & School admissions policy can be found in the 'Documents and Policies' section of this website here.
An information pack is available to download here and also on request at the school’s main office.
