Music

Where words fail, music speaks - Hans Christian Anderson

At Higher Openshaw Community School, music is an integral part of school life. Music allows us the freedom to be creative in our own unique way. We offer a variety of musical opportunities both within and additional to the curriculum.

Our school follows the Charanga curriculum which is a multi-award winning, music teaching and learning support platform. We are passionate about ensuring that our children have an enjoyment and appreciation of music, learning a variety of instruments whilst developing an understanding of the fundamental elements: pitch, dynamics, duration, tempo, timbre, texture and structure.

We create opportunities for the children outside the structures of the school day to embrace and enjoy music. A selection of children attend Young Voices at the MEN Arena- the largest children's choir in the world where they sing with a group of up to 9,000 people. Pupils also enjoy specialist teaching and after-school singing sessions with our Music Lead. Children in Year 6 finish their time at our school by writing lyrics, music and recording a music video for a leavers song they share with parents and the rest of the school.

If you would like any more information regarding Music please feel free to contact us at any time.
